8. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
With no doubt whatsoever – whenever you think of the most famous muscle car in the world, it has to be the Ford Mustang. For the past fifty years, whenever people mentioned the muscle car, they included the Mustang in the same breath.
There were lots of Ford Mustangs over the years, but none can live up to the classic Ford Mustang Boss 429 from 1969. Fewer than 1400 units were built, making them highly collectible, as well as uniquely gifted.
Surprising for a Ford Mustang, the Boss didn’t have a tremendous engine. It’s 429 cubic inch V8 only brought 375 horsepower. That’s a reasonable amount, but it’s no Olympian among the Muscle cars. The reason we’ve included the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 in our list is not the engine, but that this beast was hand built. The engine couldn’t fit inside an ordinary Mustang, so the car had to be made by hand. Ford outsourced the job to Kar Kraft, the Michigan car builder – who painstakingly created the Boss 429 piece by piece.
The Ford Mustang Boss had a 1969 and 1970 model. But it’s the original we’ve placed here on our list. The exteriors on the original 1969 model came in Raven Black, Wimbledon White, Royal Maroon, Candy Apple Red, and Black jade) but the interior was always black.
It is said that this car had so much muscle, that some people removed the V8 engine from the cars and put them into tractors to take place in tractor pulling events. It may not have made it to Number 1, but we know that when people say muscle car, they think of this Ford Mustang from 1969.
