Although this is often a plus, buyers in the US market are not used to paying top dollar for smaller cars as they must sacrifice one of the most important things to think about when choosing a potential car: interior space. Therefore, it was not expected that potential buyers would be interested in spending big bucks on something that was essentially half the size of the average car since in the US, interior space is seen as a necessity.
