The 1957 Chevrolet Corvette C1
The 1957 Chevy Corvette C1 marks the introduction of Corvettes that featured a fuel injected engine. This Chevy came with 283 horsepower, but it wasn’t until 1962 when the Chevrolet Corvette started to be produced with a 327hp version.
The ’57 Corvette was the very first type that had a 4-speed transmission. Less than a total of 700 Chevys were given this special transmission by the Chevrolet factory.
The engine alone in a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette C1 is one-quarter of the production cost. This shows just how important Chevy thought their engines were to this new breed of American sports car.
