The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air
From 1950 to 1981, the Chevy Bel Air was constantly in production. Early on, they produced only the 2-door hardtop model. But in 1953, the Chevrolet company employed a new body type that featured premium trim on most of their vehicles. Two years later, the ’55 Chevy featured power-operated front seats and a brand new V8 engine producing up to 160 horsepower. Domestic production ended for the Bel Air in 1975, but Canada continued to produce for its home market until 1981.
The 1955 Second Generation Bel Air may have featured a new V8 engine, but it was not the first time a Chevy had a V8. In 1917, Chevy’s Series D featured a V8.
