The 1959 BMW 507
At the time this car was being produced, Isetta the Italian company behind this BMW were deeply in trouble. And the BMW 507 really didn’t help their financial failings. The BMW 507 produced terribly disappointing sales and was made for disproportionately high production costs. So, then you might be wondering why is it here in this list of the top ten unforgettable cars of the 1950s?
Despite being a complete commercial disaster, it’s clean and crisp lines and truly advanced engineers was the foundation on which the future of our current successful BMW sports cars are built. Although the 507 could not take on the beast of the Mercedes-Benz 300SL on speed, the BMW 507 was instead a thing of beauty. The 507’s superior handling and good looks did convince some customers to part with their money. And while it didn’t help Isetta with their financial problems at the time, if you were trying to pick one of these up in immaculate condition today, you’d expect to shell out more than two and a half million dollars for the pleasure.
