Lowest-Rated Subcompact: Mitsubishi Mirage
It’s true that people looking for this kind of car might be tempted to consider the Mitsubishi Mirage, especially with its low low price at $13,000 and its impressive 37 miles to the gallon.
But while there are some upsides, they aren’t enough to overcome the horrendous flaws in this low cost lemon.
First off, this is a tiny car. It has a very poor three cylinder engine that offers poor speed, weak acceleration and unhelpful brakes. Add to that the interior is like trying to drive in a jar of peanut butter.
Plus, when it was tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it did particularly badly, you start to see what you’re getting with the Mirage.
Mitsubishi have acknowledged that there are problems with the Mirage and have ensured the market that their latest 2017 model will have a number of key improvements. Despite these promises, it probably won’t change the fact that as far as subcompacts go, this one hits the very bottom of the safety ratings and is a dud all round.
