Terrible Cars That Should Have Never Been Sold

Bricklin SV-1

Ever heard of the Bricklin SV1? No, most people haven’t. It had gullwing doors that weighed a 100-pounds like the DeLorean from Back to the Future – but was nowhere near as cool. Launched as the future of motoring, the name SV1 stood for ‘Safety Vehicle 1’. Hardly the sexiest title for a car that was already struggling to buy credibility.

However, for a car carrying such a terrible moniker, it also struggled on the safety front too. The body was made out of cheap plastic, which hardly adds to the safety of this vehicle. A few more safety features included bumpers than could absorb shock and the complete removal of the ashtrays and cigarette lighter. As if they needed to further reduce the potential customers for this car, they annoyed the smokers too.

If cars in the future look like this, then we’d all be driving slow, plastic lumps that are so heavy, they can’t benefit from the V8 engine under the hood.

Only about 3000 of these vehicles were ever made, and they have become something of a collector’s item. Must be gluttons for punishment then.
