The ’70 Gremlin was a Gremlin by name and a Gremlin by nature. It embarrassed teenagers everywhere that parents had mistakenly bought one thinking it was a car. This mistaken attempt by American Motors Company to take on Ford and GM in the subcompact market was ugly, ugly, ugly. The Gremlin was cheap, but never cheerful, it looked cheap and it was poorly put together. While the Gremlin was considerably quicker than other subcompact cars, that only helped it to escape the scene of embarrassment everywhere it went.
