The 10 Most Embarrassing Award Winners in Automotive History

1990 Lincoln Town Car: Motor Trend Car of the Year

Ford produced the Lincoln Town Car from 1981 to 2011. It got its name from the French Sedan deVille. These cars were huge with a wheel base of 117.4 inches (298 cm) and a curb weight of over 4000 pounds (1800 kg). The engines were carryovers from previous models: 150 hp 5 litre V8. This engine was replaced in the same year by 190 hp 4.6 litre V8. These engines were shared by the other full size Ford products. The ponderous weight and minimal power produced less than a sprightly acceleration. The suspension was geared for comfort and not sporty driving unlike its European competitors. The turning circle was gargantuan. These cars were purchased mainly by an older genertion of car owners and certainly not by drivers that wanted agile modern vehicles such as BMW and Mercedes.
