9. 1995-2002 Toyota 4Runner
For some, the Toyota 4Runner is in a class of its own. This SUV was based on the platform of the Tacoma, a midsize SUV. Its body-on-frame design has helped the 4Runner to keep going and going. Although we would argue that the 4Runner is dependable regardless of year, we would suggest the third generation from between 1995 to 2002 (also known as the N180). Although it is possible to find a model with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower, it is more common to find one with a 3.4-liter V6 with 183 horsepower. We appreciate the all-new chassis made available in the third-generation, which also meant that it did not have much in common anymore with the Tacoma. Additional changes made this model even more luxurious, including additional interior and cargo room, dual airbags, a coil-spring suspension, a lift-up tailgate, and ABS.
