2000 Toyota Tundra
When Toyota laid down the challenge to Ford, they did so by introducing the T-150. This announced that they were ready for a skirmish with Ford’s poster child. Ford countered with a lawsuit, like all grown ups do when challenged to a fight. Toyota changed their vehicle’s name to the Toyota Tundra instead.
When it was first launched in 2000, it was the first time a Japanese manufacturer had released a full sized pick up; and this one was built in the US too.
While the Tundra never really competed with any of the big trucks on the market, it did encourage other Asian automakers to join the fray.
