Cars With Awesome Pop-Up Headlights

Plymouth Superbird

Most people are far too distracted by the Plymouth Superbirds gigantic rear end spoiler to see the subtle hidden headlights that are obscured by the car’s front fascia. But both these features are indeed responsible for this muscle car’s brilliant aerodynamic design.

Ostensibly, this car is a Plymouth Road Runner with a dramatic body kit, which was designed to help the coupe model compete at speed at NASCAR. Thankfully the hidden headlights were such an important part of the high speed design, they were kept throughout the Superbird’s utter reign over the NASCAR circuits.

Eventually, they banned this car from racing, and only a few Superbirds ever made it onto American roads before production ceased entirely So, if you can find a Superbird, you know you’re in the presence of a very unique species indeed.
