Cars With The Worst Safety Ratings

Lowest-Rated Green Car: Mitsubishi i-MiEV

You would expect cars in the ‘green’ or environmentally friendly section of the safety ratings to be safe. After all, they’re doing good for the environment; shouldn’t they also be good for you too?

Well, the Mitsubishi i-MIEV is certainly cheap at around $23,000. But critics and reviewers have been equally harsh. Slow, awkward, and difficult to drive, it’s as responsive as a golf buggy.

It’s so small that usually the driver has their elbow rammed up against the window while they have their hands on the wheel. Inside, it’s incredibly noisy. Plus, it’s battery is what all green electric cars fear, awfully short on life and capable of little. In fact, if you have to drive 57 miles, you’ll have to get out after 56 miles and push the car the rest of the way.

This car really does combine a small size and an inability to drive even 60 miles without a recharge, with the absolutely awful scores in safety tests. Worse than that though, this car sets the public’s perception of electric cars back 5 years and damages the good work that’s been done so far.
