Leaving Your High Beams On
Every driver should know this, but many forget. The habit of leaving on your high beams is serious. It can be terribly dangerous for other drivers. Having your high beams on unnecessarily can cause you to blind and temporarily distract other road users.
The rule of thumb is simple. If there are other cars around, then the high beams shouldn’t be on.
If you see other vehicles around, switch to the low beams. The dashboard will remind you which lights you’ve got on – if you’ve forgotten.
Be aware of what lights you are using. Other drivers can be significantly hindered by thoughtless drivers with powerful high beams. And the cars these days have very powerful lights indeed. This causes the problem to be even worse than it used to be. A blinded driver is a dangerous driver. A thoughtful driver is a dangerous driver too. Let’s not have the two at the same time.
Let’s hope that you all learned something from these common driving mistakes. No doubt you might have been reminded of a bad habit or two that you might have picked up in all the years that you’ve been driving. Why not look at your next drive as an opportunity to fix the problems that we’ve covered in our list.
