Not Adjusting The Mirrors Properly
Your vehicle’s mirrors are an essential part of being able to safely to drive. The mirrors aren’t there for checking your make up, or seeing if you left any lunch in your teeth.
The mirrors are valuable aids in helping to see what is behind you and what’s on either side of your vehicle. However, lots of people do not drive with their mirrors in the correct position for them to see behind them and either side. Having the mirrors in the right place for you is absolutely vital to your safety and the safety of other road users.
A majority of drivers do not have them in the correct place. So a majority of drivers are tempting fate and potentially causing avoidable accidents.
If you try to change lanes without being able to see a car that’s behind you, you can find a car rapidly advancing on your current position as you move into a lane that’s quickly becoming occupied by another vehicle.
While there are always going to be areas that cannot be covered by all mirrors, this problem will be much worse if the mirrors are placed in utterly wrong and non-useful positions. Some of the mirrors can be so poorly positioned, that the driver sees themselves or the handle of the car door in the mirror.
Whenever you get into your vehicle, take a moment to look at your mirrors and check that they are all facing into the right direction. The side mirrors should barely see your car at all, this will help you reduce the risk of a blind spot blocking your view around the car.
