Terrible Cars That Should Have Never Been Sold

1985-1992 Yugo

Often considered to be the worst car ever produced, the Yugo is a worthy title holder. Perhaps this car was sent to the U.S.A by Soviet-controlled Yugoslavia as a secret mission to destabilize the American economy. Or perhaps, it was just an engineering experiment that went wrong. This car was poorly put together, cheaply made and utterly unreliable. The car’s sales brochure even listed carpet as a feature – but thankfully it wasn’t optional.

Actually, the Yugo was so infamous for breaking down that an entire book of jokes could be written about it. The Yugo’s brochure even mentions the inclusion of a rear heater on the back window, so that people could keep their hands warm when they pushed it home. Okay, that’s just one of the well-known jokes.

But it was seriously dire. The engines exploded, the electrics exploded, bits just fell off as it was driven. Drivers found it impossible to find an insurance company that would cover this rust bucket. The Yugo didn’t last long in the US, thankfully.
