The Quickest Cars of the 1950s

1. The 1958 Ferrari Superfast 4.9 – 5.6 seconds

Imagine going way back in time. It’s September of 1958. A beautiful Sunday afternoon set in the backdrop of the late spring season. The location is set at the Hutchinson River Parkway in New York City. The two checkered cap guys inside the top down TD didn’t have a clue that a powerful beast of a machine was coming in.

The Superfast was cruising in at a respectable 45 mph in fourth gear. The driver silently shifted down to the third gear, then to second, as if in dramatic effect. The 1958 Ferrari Superfast came right beside the TD and dropped into the lowest synchromesh gear. The driver did a double clutch maneuver purely for show. He blasted the Marchal Stridor-designed air horn and sped off at full throttle. The boys never did know what hit them. The only sign was a sound of thunder and the wake of burned rubber marked on the concrete road.
