Pontiac Firebird
The Pontiac Firebird was already one of the coolest cars on the planet before it received pop-up lights in its 3rd generation F-body model in early 1982. Gratefully, it kept them right through until it left production around 2002.
The Firebird brought V8 power at price that people could actually afford. And while General Motors probably refused to let the Firebird leave the factory with any more power than their flagship Corvette – by the time it had run its course, they had given it an eight cylinder LS1 that put out an impressive 325 brake horsepower. This was less than 20 small horses less than their Corvette. Plus, by the time the aftermarket had its fun with the Firebird, this car was easily beating Corvettes in a one on one street race.
