The Quickest Cars of the 1950s

8) The 1959 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder – 7.2 (tie with 7th Place)

I’ll be honest with you, the feeling of changing gear in this car is a flawless experience. Its response to my foot on the accelerator is perfectly smooth, even when I had it in top gear and was keeping the revs purposefully low. My only criticism of this Ferrari is that it feels like it’s perhaps not a true dual purpose car. It’s a race car masquerading as a road car, just to cash in on Grand Prix fever. And so, to ensure no one is mistaken, let me be absolutely clear. This is a race car, suited to the race track, and nowhere else.
